Many adults who did not complete a high school program of instruction have continued to learn through a variety of experiences encountered in everyday life. The purpose of the GED Testing Program is to provide an opportunity for these individuals to have the learning acquired from such educational experiences evaluated and recognized. In South Carolina, approximately 9.000 adults take the GED examination each year. Approximately 70 percent earn passing scores and are awarded a South Carolina High School Equivalency Diploma each year. The GED examination is a nationally normed examination. Graduating high school seniors are administered portions of the GED examination.
The passing score is set at a point where four out of ten graduating high school seniors could not pass the GED test on their first attempt.
